Robert Ashley - Automatic Writing

1979 | Musique concrète

Possibly, and probably, the most intimate piece of music ever recorded. A meditative masterpiece - recorded over the span of two years, with the involuntary speech patterns mainly ocurring in his sleep, Robert Ashley turned his tourettes into a piece of music that is unlike anything else ever created.

Best to listen lying down in a dimly lit room while your body is just tired enough to sleep, but your mind doesn't exactly want to yet. At the very least, it's certainly not music that should accompany daily activities - it's so subtle that the only time you can truly get everything out of it is during the quiet hours of the night, when the volume set halfway on your phone is a little too loud, when your ear is sensitive enough to really take in all of the fine details that the music has to offer.

...Though if you have misophonia, avoid it at all costs.
