Basic Channel - BCD-2

2008 | Minimal Techno, Dub Techno

Part of what makes us human is our perception of the world around us. We perceive in three (3) dimensions, yet we interact with four (4). Time as a fourth dimension is not a new concept - nor is it an incredibly profound one after being given even a small dose of thought - but, what is often overlooked is that you must be conscious to perceive, and subsequently interact with these four (4) dimensions. Since time is something that must be perceived in order to be true, if no one is there to do the perceiving, does time even possess the ability to exist?

Objects do not perceive, nor do they have a conscience. In a world that lacks consciousness, one that humans have left behind long ago, time will cease to exist. Everything will exist at once, despite nothing ever existing at all. This creates for an interesting dichotomy: whereas previously, due to the presence of human consciousness, inanimate objects and “things” lacked sentience, suddenly, these same objects remain in a world where they posture as immortal Gods, able to live through the beginning, middle, and end of the universe itself - or even universes. It is then discovered that to them, time and the presence of consciousness was a constraint, adding bounds to a world better off boundless. This idea poses one glaring issue, though: if these objects are able to see through all of time - exist through all of time - then they must be here now, in the present, transcending those dimensions previously lost so long ago.

Basic Channel’s BCD-2 is one such object. An infinite horizon, it is the soundtrack for the beginning, middle, and end of the universe, using perpetual repetition as a vessel through which its gospel is sung. It is, by all metrics, a God, after all.
